Dr. Laing earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Howard University in Washington, DC; a Master of Science in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing, with a subspecialty in Child Psychiatry, from Yale University in New Haven, CT; and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. Dr. Laing is also a certificated Family Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Prior to joining NSU faculty in 2014, Dr. Laing has worked in a variety of psychiatric settings. Her contribution to nursing includes over 14 years of experience in various clinical settings, inclusive of inpatient child, adolescent and adult Psychiatry. Dr. Laing has also worked as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in an adult outpatient substance abuse diversion program; and served as primary educator and Clinical Specialist for a State Mental Health Hospital. Dr. Laing has taught in both undergraduate, and graduate nursing programs. Dr. Laing’s areas of interest and research includes Trauma Informed Care and educating staff in working with patients requiring mental health services in the clinical setting.
