Dr. O’Connor received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a minor in Psychology
from D’Youville College. He received his Master of Science in Nursing with a major
in Acute Hospital Administration from the University of Buffalo. Dr. O’Connor received
a
Post Master Certificate in Long Term Care Administration from D’Youville College with
advanced certification as a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. He received his Doctor
of Philosophy in Nursing from the University at Buffalo with a Post Master Certificate
in Nursing Education.
His background and work experience include managing a transitional care and longterm
care nursing units. Also, He has been the director of a traumatic brain injury rehabilitation
unit, as well as skilled nursing home facilities. More recently, he has taught
undergraduate nursing students in the lab and clinical setting.
Dr. O’Connor’s area of research is pain management in older adults with persistent
pain. He is currently working on a measure for identifying how older adults with persistent
pain perceive the quality of their interdisciplinary pain management, including
the care provided by nurses. Dr. O’Connor became employed at Nova Southeastern University
in 2015 and has taught in the Assaf College of Nursing (ACON) Entry-Level BSN nursing
program, and now serves as the Program Director.
