D.N.P. with a Specialization in Anesthesia
Admission to the D.N.P. with a specialization in Anesthesia program requires the following:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.S.N.)* degree from a regionally accredited college
or university.
- *The nursing degree must be accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), or the Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).
- Minimum, overall cumulative B.S.N./M.S.N. GPA of 3.2 and a minimum cumulative science-based course GPA of 3.3, on a 4.0 scale.
- Minimum of 1 year full-time work experience (or its part-time equivalent) as an RN in a critical care setting.
- Successful completion of a chemistry course with a laboratory component within five
years of application.
- If you have not taken a chemistry course with a laboratory component within five years of your application, enrolling in NSG 7001 Transition into Nurse Anesthesiology will fulfill this requirement.
- Current, active, and unencumbered, U.S. (U.S. territories or protectorates) R.N. license.
- The license must remain current and unencumbered in the jurisdiction of the practicum throughout the program.
- Out-of-state applicants must have a compact license, and it must be maintained throughout the enrollment in the program.
- Current certifications in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Basic Life Support (BLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
- Completed Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) certification by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), including the final exam score.
- Writing sample (using APA 7th edition) submitted directly to NursingCAS discussing a problem you see in professional practice today that needs to be addressed from a D.N.P. or Nurse Anesthesia perspective.
- Documentation of a shadow day in an operating room with an anesthesiologist or CRNA.
- Those whose native language is not English and/or international applicants must submit a minimum score of 600 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
- Interview with the appointed panel.
- Completed application in NursingCAS.
Candidates who meet the criteria will be invited to a panel interview with program administration and faculty. Upon acceptance to the D.N.P. with a specialization in Anesthesia program, a $2000 non-refundable deposit will be required to secure your seat in the program. The $2000 will be applied to the tuition. Payment can be made as a lump sum or split into two payments ($1,250 upon acceptance of the seat, and $750 four weeks later).

NSG 7001 Transition into Nurse Anesthesiology - 3 credit hours
Course focuses on concepts and topics needed by students preparing to enter a program in Nurse Anesthesiology. This course is not designed to provide comprehensive coverage of all areas of study in a Nurse Anesthesiology curriculum, but is instead designed to reinforce previous educational experiences and introduce important concepts in anesthesiology education and practice. Topics include basic coverage of general, organic and biochemistry, physics, pharmacology and physiology, history and professional aspects of nurse anesthesia, and patient monitoring and safety.
Admission to NSG 7001 Transition into Nurse Anesthesiology requires the following:
- Current, active, and unencumbered, U.S. (U.S. territories or protectorates) R.N. license.
